Your lecture library

Margin is developed by Sequoyah Geber. Recordings, transcripts, slides, speaker profiles, notes, questions and flashcards are stored on your Mac. The developer does not receive your library. Speaker matching is approximate and does not verify a person's identity. Obtain permission before recording a lecture or other people.

Local processing and model downloads

Recording, transcription, speaker matching and local AI processing happen on your Mac. Model setup downloads public model files from Hugging Face; those servers receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address. Lecture content is not sent with model downloads. Downloaded models are verified and retained across app updates. Apple Intelligence, when available, is used on device for lecture questions.

Optional iCloud sync

Sync is off until you enable it. Margin stores a reading edition of your notes and saved transcripts in your Apple Account's private iCloud database. It includes lecture titles, courses, dates, note text, reference labels, full saved transcript text, timestamps, speaker labels and note-inclusion flags, with a notebook identifier and revision. Audio, slide originals, speaker profiles, private questions, model files and ChatGPT credentials are excluded. The developer cannot read your private iCloud library. Apple processes iCloud data under its own privacy policy.

Optional ChatGPT review

Connecting ChatGPT uses OpenAI sign-in. Margin keeps connection credentials in your Mac's Keychain and connection preferences locally. OpenAI receives your account identity, a locally generated connection identifier and connection information. Only when you choose to send a review does OpenAI receive the notes, flashcards, exam guidance and source excerpts shown in the sharing preview. Audio and PDF originals are not sent. This optional service is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy and your account settings. Sign out in Review settings to remove local authorization tokens; the saved account can be reconnected later. Signing out does not delete material already sent to OpenAI.

Manual sharing and exports

Copying a review packet to Claude, exporting notes or flashcards, and saving a complete backup are actions you choose. Pasting material into another service subjects it to that service's privacy policy. Exports and complete backups may contain sensitive lecture content; keep them in a location you trust. Complete backups include recordings and slides.

Retention and removal

Delete a lecture on Mac to remove its library content and associated recording files. With iCloud sync enabled, deletion updates that Mac's published reading edition after a successful sync. Delete the lecture on each publishing Mac if more than one Mac holds a copy. Pausing sync keeps downloaded notes and transcripts on iPhone; deleting the iPhone app removes its local cache. Existing exports, complete backups, device backups and material sent to other services remain until you remove them separately. Model files are stored separately from lectures.

Samples, tracking and feedback

Sample lectures and sample reader notes are fictional. The iPhone sample reader has no iCloud connection and does not replace your downloaded library. Margin contains no advertising, tracking or developer analytics. If you send beta feedback through TestFlight, Apple shares that feedback and the information you include with the developer. Avoid including private recordings, lecture content, passwords or connection credentials.

Privacy questions

For beta support or a privacy question, open TestFlight, select Margin and choose Send Beta Feedback. The public support page explains what to include. Updated October 4, 2026.
